CHERRY VALLEY TOWNSHIP — Fire ripped through a trailer on Route 6 Thursday night, destroying the home of three people.
Warren Gibson, Wayne Township Fire Department assistant chief, said firefighters were called to 4210 Route 6 at around 7:30 p.m. The resident of the trailer, whose name was not available, was at the Ashtabula County Fairgrounds at the time of the blaze.
The trailer was a rental property and was fully involved when firefighters arrived.
“Trailers don’t take long,” Gibson said.
The fire started in the living room of the structure; however it is undetermined what started the blaze, he said. From information gathered at the scene, Gibson said it appears three people were living in the trailer.
Gibson said fire officials have not talked to the homeowners yet so there is no estimate of damages, but the trailer is a total loss. Firefighters were on the scene until about 11 p.m., although it didn’t take very long to extinguish the fire.
“It took very little to put it out,” Gibson said. “You use very little water with trailers. They go out pretty quick, they just spread pretty fast.”
Andover Fire Department and Dorset Fire Department were called for mutual aid. No injuries were reported. Arson is not suspected to be a factor, Gibson said.
