ACMC hosts ‘Every Child, Ready to Read’

— ASHTABULA — Reading is a vital skill that children need to excel, and it doesn’t happen overnight. The Ashtabula County District Library and Ashtabula County Medical Center have joined together in support of this cause and are hosting “Every Child, Ready to Read”, a free program for parents, guardians and care givers 6 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 13. Attendees will be instructed by library staff on methods for greater reading comprehension in children.
Not only is reading ability necessary for survival in the world of schools and universities, but also in adult life. The ability to learn about new subjects and find helpful information on anything from health problems to consumer protection, to more academic research into science or the arts depends on the ability to read.
Communities with students who rank high on achievement tests have several factors in common: an abundance of books in public libraries, easy access to books in the community at large, and plenty of time spent with adults reading and being read to.
