A lawsuit filed by an ex- Rome Township road superintendent against his former employers has been settled, according to reports.
Terms of the settlement were not available, according to reports.
Charles Riley, a Monroe Township trustee, filed the lawsuit in 2007, alleging his termination in 2005 was in retaliation for filing a discrimination claim with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, according to court documents. Riley also claimed he was harassed over medical claims he filed, according to documents.
Attorney Nicholas Iarocci of Conneaut, who represented Riley, said Riley claimed he was wrongfully terminated and alleged trustees violated laws involving open meetings. Iarocci said he could not comment on the settlement.
“All parties are happy it was resolved,” he said.
Riley was employed by the township between 2003 and 2005, Gary Hunter, trustee chairman, said recently. The matter was resolved through mediation, he said.
The cost of the suit to the township was not immediately known, Hunter said at the time. The expense will be covered by liability insurance, he said.
Hunter deferred additional comment to the township’s attorney, Abraham Cantor, who did not return a telephone call to his office. Riley did not return a telephone call seeking comment.
