ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — Motorists soon will experience a smooth ride to the Ashtabula Mall.
Work crews from Koski Construction will perform a major overhaul of the mall’s roadway system. The project is expected to be completed by the end of September.
“The whole property will be getting a facelift and we are very excited about it,” said Vince Coneglio, general manager of the Ashtabula Mall.
Koski Construction will resurface the ramps, roads and south parking lot. The remainder of the mall roadway and parking areas will be crack-filled, sealed and striped, he said.
“We’re also replacing the curbs,” Coneglio said. “In September, we will be re-lamping the parking lots.”
Coneglio said he realizes this may pose a temporary inconvenience to the traveling public, but he’s optimistic about the finished product. The construction is temporary and it will make the mall a better place to visit, he said.
Inside the mall, workers will begin building a new indoor playground Aug. 5.
The new 1,100-square-foot family attraction, called The Children’s Soft Play Area, will be constructed between JCPenney and Famous Labels department stores. Special features will include a 10-foot-tall lighthouse with steps and a slide, a Lake Erie boat, an Ashtabula Harbor Lighthouse tunnel and slide and several animal and fish friends — all constructed on a soft-sculpted material to make playing safe, mall officials said.
Construction is expected to be completed by September.
The mall is owned by Cabot Investment Properties.
