A sign from heaven here in Ashtabula?

ASHTABULA — Things are looking up for Ed Luta.
Ever since the 84-year-old Lakeview Towers resident noticed the top of a nearby maple tree looked like a Christian cross, he has felt a little better.
“Isn’t it fantastic?” he said. “I can’t figure out why I didn’t see it before.”
Luta lives on the third floor of Lakeview Towers, which faces westward. His balcony provides a perfect view of the tall maple tree growing in the parking lot, next to the handicapped spaces.
He noticed the cross-shaped treetop Tuesday.
A man of the Catholic faith, Luta believes it’s a good sign, perhaps even a sign from heaven. The cross is the best-known religious symbol of Christianity. It is generally seen as a representation of Jesus’ crucifixion.
Eight years ago, Luta moved to Ashtabula from New York after having had triple-bypass surgery. He stayed with his daughter in Ashtabula while recuperating from the operation and then decided to stay. He looked around town and decided on his own apartment at Lakeview Towers.
“I like living by the lake,” he said, noting he also enjoyed Lake Chautauqua in New York.
“Ashtabula is a very nice place to live.”
