Weather forecaster predict more of the same today and Sunday, buoying the hopes of fireworks lovers in Ashtabula and Conneaut. In fact, rain doesn’t appear in the forecast for the next four days. Sunny skies and comfortable temperatures lured families to local parks and beaches. Picnic tables at Conneaut’s Township Park were in short supply, and “reserved” signs had sprouted on many tables in the beachfront pavilion by early Friday morning. The weekend also featured three consecutive nights of fireworks displays. Geneva-on-the-Lake was scheduled to detonate its display late Friday night. Ashtabula’s show will be held at 10 p.m. today at Walnut Beach. Conneaut’s display will be sent into the heavens at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, along the lakefront near Township and Lakeview parks. Lakeview Park is also the home of Conneaut’s Fourth of July Festival, which began Thursday afternoon and concludes late Sunday night. Opening day activities were well-attended, and big crowds were expected for Friday night’s launch of the popular “Conneaut Idol” competition, said Tom Udell, coordinator. Three judges will crown an “Idol” winner after the 8 p.m. Sunday finals at the festival stage. Conneaut’s annual holiday parade begins at 4 p.m. today on Jackson Street near Conneaut High School. The procession will travel north to the festival midway via Jackson, Broad and Erie streets.
