CONNEAUT — Grants from the Conneaut Community Foundation, approved recently by its board of trustees, will assist five civic-related projects, officials have announced.
Funds totaling $23,560 were given to these local, non-profit organizations:
n ACCESS, a program to encourage post-graduation education, to provide college trips to 300 students in the Conneaut and Buckeye school districts
n Conneaut Public Library, for a large screen TV and DVD player
n Loving Equally All Families, to help purchase supplies and material for the repair of 50 homes later this month
n Child Care Center, for computers, educational software, a printer and computer table
n Western Reserve Land Conservancy, to assist the purchase of 35 acres for the Woodring preservation project along South Ridge Road
“The grant-making process is core to the mission of the foundation,” James Furman, board president, said in a statement. “Each year the board is challenged in making grant decisions with our limited resources. Again this year we had twice as many requests as we were able to award.
“The board’s goal is to assure that the resources of the foundation are focused on serving community needs in as broad a way as possible,” he said.
The Conneaut Community Foundation is a non-profit foundation formed in 1997 out of the affiliation between Brown Memorial Hospital (now UH Conneaut Medical Center) and University Hospital Health System. As a result, $1 million was transferred to create the foundation, which is focused on serving the charitable, education, scientific and cultural needs of Conneaut and surrounding communities.
