ROCK CREEK — Mayor Beverly Martin, of Rock Creek, resigned her position as sexton of the Union Joint Cemetery on Monday.
The resignation comes in response to a ruling from the Ohio Ethics Commission, according to a press release from the Mayor’s Office.
Martin sought a ruling from the commission after a possible conflict between her mayoral position and her position as cemetery sexton arose after her election as mayor in 2007.
“In the ruling, the commission stated that there is a conflict with the two positions. However, the opinion is limited to my future actions and reached no conclusions and makes no determinations about any actions I have already taken,” Martin says in the press release.
“I have elected to resign from the cemetery and maintain my position as the mayor of the village of Rock Creek,” Martin says in the press release.
Martin said her decision to resign the 20-year position was difficult.
Martin delivered her resignation to Morgan Township Trustee Donald Dietrich, Union Joint Cemetery chairman.
