SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — The Ashtabula Area City School Board of Education invites the public to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new elementary campus on Wade Avenue.
The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. July 25 and shuttle service will be provided. Parking is not allowed on Wade Avenue.
Four designated areas will be used to pick-up and drop-off the public: The old Tops parking lot, Kent State University-Ashtabula, and Thomas Jefferson and Washington Elementary schools.
The shuttle service will begin at 1 p.m., school officials said.
Superintendent Joseph Donatone urges faculty, staff, parents and students to attend this event and to wear their Dragon attire. Seating, beverages and desserts will be provided.
At its June 17 meeting, the school board approved the elementary schools’ construction documents and building plans, giving the final nod to the work of project architects Olsavsky Jaminet Architects of Youngstown, and Fanning/Howey Associates of Dublin.
The documents for the five new elementary schools include a pre-kindergarten through third-grade building, two kindergarten through third-grade buildings and two fourth through sixth-grade buildings, all set in a campus-style setting.
Last week, the Ashtabula County Commissioners approved the annexation of the Wade Avenue property in Saybrook Township to Ashtabula city.
The next move is up to the city.
