ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — Two women almost bought the farm Thursday when the Bob Evans restaurant sign fell from the sky.
No one was injured when the large sign fell, bounced off the awning and landed on the sidewalk at about 12:20 p.m. in front of the popular restaurant.
The sign just missed Mary Robertson and her 79-year-old mother, Isabelle Mariotti, of Ashtabula.
“It almost killed us,” Robertson said. “We just missed it because I was digging in my purse for a tip. I think those extra seconds saved our lives.”
Bob Evans managers said they had no idea why the sign fell, but a sign company was called to come out and fix it.
