Criminal arraignments held for 10 defendants Star Beacon JEFFERSON — Ten people were arraigned June 20 and entered pleas to various felony charges before Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court Judge Gary Yost.
The state was represented by chief assistant county prosecutor Harold Specht Jr. The following cases have been assigned to Judge Ronald Vettel: n Cynthia M. Tenney, 37, of 3583 Austin Road, Geneva, pleaded not guilty to one count of complicity to rape, a first-degree felony; and one count of sexual battery, a third-degree felony. The court appointed public defender Marie Lane as defense counsel. A $25,000 personal recognizance bond was set by Yost; n Damian R. Schultz, 24, of 188 Eastwood St., Geneva, pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. The court appointed public defender Dean Topalof as defense counsel. A $5,000, or 10 percent cash, bond was continued. n Joe Bill Baier, 46, of 5400 Mechanicsville Road, Rome Township, pleaded not guilty to charges of illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs with specification, a third-degree felony; and illegal manufacture of drugs or cultivation of marijuana with specification, a second-degree felony. The following cases have been assigned to Judge Alfred Mackey: n Denise L. Ivancic, 43, of 49 Janet Ave., Orwell, pleaded not guilty to charges of complicity to the illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, a third-degree felony; and obstructing justice, a fifth-degree felony. The court appointed public defender Joseph Humpolick as defense counsel. A $2,000, or 10 percent cash, bond was continued by the judge. n Jacqueline Wagner, 29, of 1821 Dadeville Road, Austinburg Township, pleaded not guilty to two counts of illegal assembly or purchase of chemicals to manufacture drugs, a third-degree felony. The defendant was represented by attorney Malcolm S. Douglas. The court set a $10,000 personal recognizance bond. n Gary S. Deitz, 43, of 5123 Center St., Ashtabula, pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony. The court appointed attorney Hobart Shiflet as defense counsel. A $5,000 personal recognizance bond was continued. n Joe Bill Baier, 46, of 5400 Mechanicsville Road, Rome Township, pleaded not guilty to charges of illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, a third-degree felony; and falsification, a first-degree misdemeanor. The following cases have been assigned to Judge Gary Yost: n Felipe Sanabria, 48, of 6046 N. Ridge W., Geneva, pleaded not guilty to two counts of trafficking in drugs, a fifth-degree felony. Sanabria was appointed language interpreter Hilda Nater to help in further court hearings. The judge appointed public defender Richard Danolfo as defense counsel. A previously posted $5,000 personal recognizance bond was continued for the defendant. n Ashley Hale, 26, of 5303 Middle Road, Conneaut, pleaded not guilty to a charge of illegal possession of drug documents, a fourth-degree felony. The court appointed Danolfo as defense counsel. A $2,500, or 10 percent cash, bond was continued for the defendant. n Kevin C. Reiser, 29, of 3020 Wilson Ave., Ashtabula, pleaded not guilty to a charge of felonious assault, a second-degree felony. The court appointed Danolfo as defense counsel. A $10,000 personal recognizance bond was set by Yost with the order that Reiser have no contact with the alleged victim.
