ASHTABULA — Police are looking for the man they believe stabbed another man Tuesday morning in the 1000 block of West 38th Street, Detective Sgt. Joseph Cellitti said.
City police received a report of a stabbing at about 11:20 a.m. from the 700 block of West 35th Street, according to police dispatcher reports. They went to West 35th Street initially but then moved to West 38th Street after receiving information the stabbing took place there.
The victim, a 36-year-old Ashtabula man, suffered stab wounds on both his forearms, Cellitti said.
“He sustained defensive wounds,” he said.
Community Care Ambulance transported the victim to Ashtabula County Medical Center, Cellitti said. The victim was treated there and later released, police said.
Police swarmed the West 38th Street area, including Station Avenue and behind Thurgood Marshall Elementary School, looking for the suspect, according to dispatcher reports.
“We are looking for the suspect, and he will be charged with felonious assault,” Cellitti said.
The victim recently had moved from Cleveland to Ashtabula.
Police would not release any more details, pending further investigation into the stabbing.
According to police reports, the last time a person was injured seriously by stabbing in the city was May 2007, at a West 38th Street bar. The victim in that case survived being stabbed in the back.
