Tests look good for local schools

Ashtabula County school districts are continuing to improve in state-required tests.
The preliminary results for the 2006-2007 Ohio Achievement Test and Ohio Graduation Test will be released by the end of next week, although school districts in the county already know how they have done. The preliminary results are for test administered this school year in grades 3 through 11. Many districts are still reviewing the data.
Ashtabula Superintendent Joseph Donatone told board of education members Wednesday the results are very preliminary, but look good.
"It does appear the district has improved," he said.
Again for the second year the district is looking at a continuous Improvement rating. This is up from a couple of years ago when the district was in academic watch.
A more detailed report on the district's report card will be presented at the board's July 11 work session, Donatone said.
Geneva Area City Schools Superintendent Ronald Donatone said it looks like the district passed all 10 state indicators on the 10th and 11th grade and met the graduate rate requirement.
Pymatuning Valley Local School District, which has retained it's effective rating, also is reviewing the data. The district went from continuous improvement to effective last year.
From what Superintendent Jake Rose has seen so far, the district did improve on it's test scores.
Buckeye Local School District also reviewed the data and has shown significant improvement in the area of math and readings, Superintendent Nancy Williams reported to the board of education earlier this week the district passed 12 of the 14 indicators this year and will remain an effective rated district. Last year, it passed only 8 of the 14.
