5-year-old spends two days in hospital after dog bite Uh rainbow and babies children's hospital, sevee dog bite

ROCK CREEK — A two-day stay at UH-Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital as a result of severe dog-bite injuries prompted a report to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday.
A 5-year-old boy was bitten Monday in a neighbor’s yard, in the 2600 block of Tisch Road, by a Rottweiler-Labrador mix dog, which was chained to a tree.
The juvenile was playing with two other boys when he bent down to pet the dog. The dog leapt from the ground and attacked the boy, who suffered multiple bites to his head and left forearm, according to the report.
The dog owner heard the boy screaming and rushed to his aid. The victim was transported to UH-Geauga Hospital and then to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.
The owner was asked to quarantine the dog. The dog owner wishes to have the dog put down after the quarantine is over, according to the report. No criminal charges were filed, according to the sheriff’s reports.

First, stay away if there is more than one dog, the dog is in a neighbor’s backyard, no adult is supervising the dog, the dog is mid-sized or larger, or the dog is normally kept on a chain or rope.
Here are other safety tips to keep in mind when meeting an unknown dog: (1) Ask the owner before petting Rover; (2) petting the chin is where you begin; (3) he sniffs your hand to understand; (4) if he has a bone, leave him alone; (5) respecting his space will save your face; (6) if you run and shout, he’s gonna freak out; (7) whether girl or a boy, never tease or annoy; and (8) quiet and slow are the way to go.
