JEFFERSON - - Ashtabula County commissioners' newly hired county administrator, Janet Discher, spent her first few days on the job this week at a training session.
Discher, 33, spent Thursday at the commissioners meeting, mostly listening. She was hired last month away from Growth Partnership for Ashtabula County, where she was deputy director and on the staff there for seven years.
Her bosses after Thursday's session hosted an informal get-acquainted reception for other courthouse and officials to attend. Discher said she will be working closely with county budget director James Hardin as the two put final touches on the 2008 budget.
Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the budget at 1:30 p.m. July 12 in their meeting room in Jefferson.
In other agenda actions Thursday, the board:
- Awarded a contract for $638,169 to C.I.R. Inc. of Geneva for the County Line Road waterline extension project in Geneva Township. This is a joint project with Lake County commissioners. The project is being funded with a $292,000 community development block grant, a $350,000 interest-free loan from the Ohio Public Works Commission, and assessments paid by benefiting property owners; and
- Hired Smolen Engineering Ltd. to provide engineering design services for drainage, sidewalk and paving improvements at the Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The contract with Smolen Engineering is for $8,570.
