JEFFERSON - - New computer hardware and software equipment for the county's Enhanced 911 emergency dispatch system will soon be installed as Ashtabula County commissioners awarded a $282,737.82 contract to a New Jersey-based vendor.
County Information Technology Services director Paul Mascatelli recommended KML Technologies Inc. of West Deptford, N.J., for supplying the SmartDMS E911 system equipment for the seven public service answering points. In addition, Digital Data Technologies Inc. of Columbus was awarded a contract for $88,205 by the commissioners.
The Columbus firm will supply computer equipment for the mapping interface segment of the dispatch system. The E-911 advisory committee has agreed to use the 911 wireless money collected by the countyto pay for the mapping system segment, Commissioner Deborah Newcomb said.
Mascatelli said the system upgrade will be installed in the four primary PSAP locations, at the county sheriff's department, Geneva, Ashtabula and Conneaut police department. Upgrades will also be done at three secondary answering points at the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ashtabula and Saybrook Township fire departments.
Embarq is the telephone provider for the county emergency 911 system. Mascatelli said Embarq notified his office in November that the existing service needed upgrading.
In other action, commissioners approved purchasing a hydraulic excavator for $112,369 through the state cooperative purchasing program. Commissioners said they will own the equipment, but it will be used by County Engineer Tim Martin's department for ditch cleaning work on township and county roads.
The board is financing the purchase through a Sky Bank loan to be repaid over three years. The equipment is being bought from Cantwell Machinery in Columbus.
