CONNEAUT — Charges may be pending against youths who reportedly used a gas-powered golf cart to tear up lawns and flatten fences and mailboxes early Sunday morning, police said.
The cart left a path of destruction in a lakefront neighborhood that stretched from Clark to Detroit streets, police said.
Officers began receiving calls of a “golf cart driving recklessly” around 1:30 a.m., police said. The cart had knocked down, for-sale signs, mailboxes and a chain-link fence, officers said. Decorative outdoor lights were also flattened by the vehicle.
A lawn was damaged when the cart apparently got temporarily stuck in a ditch, police said.
A cart believed used in the rampage was eventually found parked behind a building at a Millard Avenue residence, officers said. The cart was towed from the scene.
Police believe several juveniles may have been aboard the cart at the time, and officers are trying to track down their identity. A 17-year-old boy believed responsible for the cart has offered to pay for the damage, police said.
