ASHTABULA - - Pretty posies perk up the outside of apartment No. 1 in Cliffview Apartments, off West 44th Street and Collins Boulevard, thanks to resident Sharon Anderson.
The apartment manager was so impressed with Anderson's green thumb, he called the Star Beacon.
"It's unbelievable," said Steve Prengler, manager. "She did it all of the way around to the back of her apartment."
Anderson's hard work and eye for the proper placement of pansies, impatiens and geraniums motivated neighbors to plant flowers and lily of valleys along the front of their apartments.
When asked about her gardening skills, Anderson gave all the credit to her mother.
"She always had lovely gardens while I was growing up," she said. "I really get a lot of enjoyment out of (gardening) on the weekend."
Prengler said her neighbors get a lot of enjoyment out of it, too.
"I'm speechless, I'm so impressed," he said.
Anderson's decor includes a wishing well, garden statues, hanging plants, a loving touch and lots of mulch.
As for advice to local gardeners, local dermatologists recommend wearing a wide-brimmed hat that protects the face and neck from sun. Always wear sunscreen on exposed skin. Protect eyes with sunglasses. Try to avoid working outside during the sun's most intense hours, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
