Commissioners gauge interest in forming South County water task force By DORIS COOK - Staff Writer Star Beacon JEFFERSON — Ashtabula County commissioners want to know whether south county townships and villages would like to form a water planning task force, said Commissioner Daniel Claypool.
Recent discussions with Rock Creek and Roaming Shores villages on regional water services projects could be expanded to surrounding communities, officials said. The county’s Department of Environmental Services is contacting other communities, including Orwell village and Morgan, Rome, Orwell and New Lyme townships, to see whether they are interested in cooperating on public water infrastructure projects. “The county is eager to work with the villages and townships to identify ways we can extend public infrastructure that would be beneficial for all involved. The formation of a task force is an ideal way to get this process started,” Claypool said. Commissioners several years ago formed a township waterline advisory committee, on which this proposed south county task force be modeled. A tentative meeting is being planned for June, but the date has not been finalized, commissioners said.
