ROCK CREEK — Rock Creek Village resident Suzanne Hayes was welcomed onto Village Council during Monday evening’s regular meeting.
Councilman Paul Benak had submitted his letter of resignation before the April 20 regular meeting, which said he was moving away.
“We are very thankful to Paul for his three and a half years of service on Village Council,” said Mayor Beverly Martin. “He cared very much about the village and did a great job. He was always right on top of things and a very professional person. He will be greatly missed.”
Rock Creek continues to make progress despite various setbacks, and Martin said she is pleased with how things are coming along, including the addition of Hayes to Village Council.
“Suzanne has lived here all her life and has been a Rock Creek Elementary School teacher for many years. She is honest and fair and will be a great asset to the council,” Martin said.
Hayes was approached earlier by council to find out whether she would be interested in being nominated, and she agreed, Martin said.
At Monday night’s meeting, Councilman Mark Sandercock made the nomination, Councilman James Hall seconded the motion, and Hayes was approved by a unanimous vote.
Later this week or early next week, Village Council will be making its final choice on who will fill the village administrator position left vacant by John Casalina’s departure in February. There are three qualified applicants whom council is considering.
“The pay has not been set yet. We have to go over our finances and see what we can afford. Our budget is very tight,” Martin said.
