MADISON — A southern Ohio woman was killed in a one-vehicle traffic accident early Friday morning on Interstate 90 in Madison Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol at Chardon.
The driver, Jeanette Cassett, 60, of Hamersville, died at the scene, according to a statement from OHP’s Chardon post. Hamersville is near the Ohio River, a short distance from Cincinnati.
A passenger, Jonathon Cassett, 23, of Feesburg, had to be freed from the wreckage and was flown to Cleveland Metro Hospital by medical helicopter, troopers said. He suffered “nonincapacitating injuries,” according to an OHP statement.
The accident occurred around 6:15 a.m., just inside the Lake County line, between the Madison and Geneva exits, according to reports.
Cassett was traveling west on I-90 when the sport utility vehicle she was driving drifted off the right side of the highway, just inside the Lake County line, troopers said. The vehicle re-entered the road and overturned, rolling several times before coming to rest in the median, troopers said.
Jeanette Cassett, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle, according to the statement. She was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the statement.
Westbound traffic on I-90 was briefly funneled off the freeway ahead of the crash scene at Route 534, according to reports.
