Chicatelli begins 10-day sentence By MARGIE TRAX PAGE - Staff Writer - mtrax@starbeacon.com Star Beacon CONNEAUT — A Conneaut councilman convicted of drunken driving last week began serving his 10-day jail sentence Tuesday morning, said Police Chief Jon Arcaro.
Councilman-at-Large Jacob Chicatelli reported to Conneaut’s jail at 9 a.m. “(Chicatelli) requested he be moved up the waiting list,” Arcaro said. Last week, a jury found Chicatelli guilty of two charges related to operating a motor vehicle under the influence, and was sentenced to 10 days in jail and another 36 days of house arrest. After Monday’s City Council meeting, Chicatelli said he would not appeal the verdict. The next morning, he showed up at jail to start his sentence. Chicatelli will be segregated from other inmates and will be permitted to receive council-related material, but otherwise will receive no preferential treatment, Arcaro said. “(Chicatelli) will be treated as any other prisoner,” he said. Chicatelli was arrested early on the morning of June 23 after failing three field sobriety tests. The 10-day sentence was mandatory because the councilman had been found guilty of an identical OMVI offense in December 2004, officials have said.
