Hoppin’ in the Harbor coming to Bridge Street this summer

ASHTABULA — While the historic lift bridge at the east end of Bridge Street undergoes a facelift, it will be closed in the upright position through mid-September.
Even so, the Lift Bridge Community Association plans to keep the Bridge Street shopping district hopping this summer with “Hoppin’ in the Harbor,” which kicks off Memorial Day weekend.
“As major developers now strive to create village-like shopping centers like Legacy Village and Crocker Park, the historic Harbor district is the real thing,” said Ren Carlisle, spokesperson for the association. “Perhaps what makes the Harbor unique is the museums, parks, beaches or the river.”
Hoppin’ in the Harbor will bring live entertainment to Bridge Street on Friday evenings, celebrations for various non-profit organizations on Saturdays, and family fun days and a farmer’s market on Sundays.
“The bridge may be up, but we’re gettin’ it down on Bridge Street,” said Debbie Konegni of the Blue Goose store.
Bridge Street’s merchants offer shoppers art, home decor, souvenirs, food, coffee and more. There’s benches and flowers along the sidewalk.
Visitors also may want to stop at The Marine Museum and Hubbard House Museum in the Harbor. The Hubbard House is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the summer. Adults $5, Children $3 (ages 6-16) The Marine Museum costs adults $4, children 6-16 $3.
