Federal inmate died of coronary heart disease By DORIS COOK - Staff Writer Star Beacon JEFFERSON — Coronary heart disease was the cause of death Thursday for a female federal prisoner being held at Ashtabula County jail, said Ashtabula County coroner’s investigator Jim Baehr. The woman identified as Barbara King of Cleveland was found dead in her jail bed about 7 a.m. as corrections officers unlocked cells.
“It appears she died sometime during the night or early morning before found. A jail nurse was called along with the Jefferson Emergency Rescue squad. The woman could not be revived,” Baehr said. There was no suspicion of any foul play. The Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office is to issue its final toxicology report in about 10 weeks, Baehr said. King was being held overnight for pickup by the U.S. Marshal’s Office in Cleveland. She had failed to surrender Wednesday to the Bureau of Prisons in Hazelton, W.Va., said USMO chief deputy, Angel Gonzalez. The woman was sentenced in February for a fraud case conviction dealing with theft of government funds, Gonzalez said.
