Angela Ball, 28, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and felony failure to comply. A hearing will be held May 28. The charges were filed Wednesday, Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court records show. Ball is expected to “plead guilty on information” to the charges, which is a hearing not an indictment, the prosecutor’s office employee said. Because of Ball’s agreement to plead guilty, the case has bypassed the grand jury, the employee said. Ball struck Richard Turner’s car April 8, killing the 71-year-old Geneva resident and his dog as she was fleeing police after a traffic stop for speeding on Route 534. Alcohol is suspected in the crash, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports. OHP Lt. Mike Harmon said the state will continue to hold Ball’s arrest warrant, which never was served because of Ball’s medical condition. “Something is in the works, but I can’t discuss it at this time. We are not serving the warrant currently,” he said. Ball may never see that warrant, as she has agreed to turn herself in at the May 28 court date, the prosecutor’s office confirmed. While Ball’s condition after the crash was first considered fair, she was later transferred to the critical care unit at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in Youngstown, where she was placed on a ventilator. She has since made progress and is off the ventilator, OHP reported. Harmon said he isn’t sure where Ball is, though last reports indicated she was in an undisclosed medical facility for rehabilitation. Ball has a criminal and traffic record in Lake and Ashtabula counties.
