Contractors out in force in Geneva-on-the-Lake By MARGIE TRAX PAGE - Staff Writer - mtrax@starbeacon.com Star Beacon GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE — The start of the village’s 139th summer season looms as contractors and officials scramble to pick up branches, pave roads and repair sidewalks for tourists.
“There is a lot going on in town and we’re not sure it will all get done for Mother’s Day, but we are shooting for that Memorial Day deadline,” Mayor Frances Cervas said over the weekend. “We keep pointing out the important dates on the calendar to the contractors. They know the deadline.” The base work on Route 531 (Lake Road) will be complete today and at least one lane will be open at all times, Cervas said. Paving will begin from the west side of the village May 14. Crosswalks on Lake Road are also being repaired. Bright orange construction barrels warn residents of wet cement. The branch pick up will resume this week. Branches three inches in diameter and smaller will be sent through a wood chipper free of charge. Village workers have already gone through part of the west end of the village and will only make one pass, Cervas said. Cervas would also like to remind residents of the weed and grass ordinance, which is in effect from May 1 to Nov. 1.
