Boil alert lifted for Geneva-on-the-Lake

— GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE — The village boil alert for drinking water has been lifted as potability tests confirm all water through Ashtabula County pipelines is safe, Larry Meaney, director of the county’s Department of Environmental Services, reports.
“The line has been tested and everything is A-OK,” Meaney said. “All tests for bacteria and coliform came back clean.”
More than 100 county water customers along Lake Road were under a boil alert last week after a large water-main break crippled the village’s westernmost plumbing Tuesday.
Residents from 4876 to 5609 Lake Road, near Adventure Zone park, Grandview Drive and North Putnam Drive were advised to boil water used for drinking and cooking, vigorously for two minutes.
Meaney called the boil alert “a precautionary measure,” and said the boil alert was important because of depressurization of the cast-iron infrastructure pipes.
GOTL waterlines are on the county’s list for replacement, as emergency repairs can be costly and inconvenient, Meaney said.
