U.S. Marine Corps Parris Island Band to perform at Geneva High School By MARGIE TRAX PAGE - Staff Writer - mtrax@starbeacon.com Star Beacon GENEVA — Fresh from the mint juleps and big hats of the Kentucky Derby, the Parris Island Marine Band will perform a free concert Monday at Geneva High School.
“The band travels and does about 200 shows a year,” Sgt. Martin Harris said. “The concert is free and everyone is invited to attend.” The concert “America’s Marines,” will begin at 7 p.m. Harris said Geneva is the perfect stop on the band’s road trip home from Churchill Downs, where the band performed before the Run for the Roses Saturday. “The band was coming through the area after the race and thought to stop for a concert,” Harris said. “The concert will be something for everyone.” The band, under the direction of Chief Warrant Officer II Christian Flores, plays at recruit graduations, parades and special events to aid recruiters. The band’s main role in recruiting is to show the public the honor, commitment and professionalism Marines possess, said bandmaster Gunnery Sgt. Travis Antoine in a press release. Harris said Geneva High School is the perfect location for the band and said students interested in opportunities with the Marine Corps can stop by for information on recruitment.
