JEFFERSON — The Jefferson Area Local Schools Board of Education is hoping voters support Issue 14 at the polls Tuesday.
Issue 14 is a 5-mill five-year renewal levy.
“This is not a new tax; it is a renewal,” said JALS’ Superintendent Doug Hladek. “The original levy was passed in 1980, and we thank our district voters for all of their support over the years.”
The levy generates $484,000 per year toward the district’s operating expenses, which include wages and benefits for staff; payment of utilities; and money needed for books, supplies, insurance and more.
“This is a significant amount of money for the district, and without it, we would have to make some serious decisions about cutbacks,” Hladek said. “It is always our goal to keep moving forward to provide the very best quality of education for our students.”
