TRUMBULL TOWNSHIP — The death of a Thompson Township woman, following a Sunday morning motorcycle crash, was declared a homicide, said Coroner’s Investigator Richard Mongell Monday.
Kimberly Judd, 28, of Thompson Township, was declared dead at Ashtabula County Medical Center at 12;30 p.m. Sunday, he said.
“The manner of death is homicide because it was caused by another person,” Mongell said.
The investigation into the crash on Route 166 in Trumbull Township is on-going, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol. No decision has been made as to whether charges will be filed in the case.
Judd, 28, died of blunt trauma to the head, Mongell said of the injuries suffered when the motorcycle she was riding with Matthew Judd, was struck by a pickup truck driven by James Mathews, 20, of Austinburg Township.
Mongell said Judd also suffered skull fractures and neck trauma after being ejected from the motorcycle. Both Judds were not wearing a helmet, he said.
Mongell said there is no way to tell whether the helmet would have made a difference as far as her survival.
Mathews was westbound on Route 166 and was turning onto Graham Road when the crash occurred, reports show. A vehicle driven by Patricia Williams, 55, of Rome Township, was struck by Mathews’ vehicle in the aftermath of the crash, but she was uninjured, reports show.
Matthew Judd, also of Thompson, was listed in critical condition Monday evening at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown.
