CHERRY VALLEY TOWNSHIP — A massive orange fireball could be seen from miles away as a horse barn burned to the ground late Monday night on Creek Road.
Firefighters from Andover, Wayne and Rome volunteer fire departments battled the blaze.
Bill Shine of Williamsfield Township said he drove by the barn around 10:44 p.m. and saw no sign of problems. By the time he got to his home, family members were calling to get him to return to the barn because it was on fire.
He said his sister-in-law rents the barn for his niece’s horses, which were in the structure at the time the fire broke out. Shine said they were able to get the horses out but were still searching for them early Tuesday morning.
“We saw the glow from down the road. You knew it was bad,” Shine said. He said the family lost some equipment in the fire.
“The kids were down earlier and had done some chores,” Shine said.
