She purchased two large rolls of batting for the inner layer of the quilts, and went to work cutting and sewing the covers.
“One day, I made eight of them, and on Sunday I made four,” says Lucile, who still finds time to play cards with her friends and work with her daughter, Pat Whyte, in the intake and follow-up sides of the adoption agency.
Margaret carries in the quilts to Guatemala in her luggage, vacuum-sealing them inside bags to reduce the bulk. She’ll be making two trips to Guatemala in March as the time to open the orphanage nears.
EAC also works with civic and religious groups whose members would like to go on a mission trip to the orphanage and experience the need firsthand. The groups tour the orphanage, learn about its needs, then go into the city and shop for those supplies.
