MIDDLEFIELD — What do a bank, a restaurant, a cleaning service and a trucking company all have in common?
They want your vote for the best chili in town.
Middlefield Market’s annual Chili Cook-Off is Saturday and guarantees to provide a day of warm entertainment to fit any budget. Admission is free into the Pavilion, where the doors open at 11:30 am.
“This is a great family day,” explained Tina Mooney, who hosts the event with her husband, Tom. “With free admission, it is inexpensive for families to spend the afternoon in a warm friendly environment. The musical entertainment is first rate. Live musical entertainment will be performed by Soft Tones until the festivities are concluded at 4 p.m.
“Many of our competitors are local business owners with give-aways, raffles and discount coupons at their booths. Some will have examples of their wares for sale, and tables will also be competing for a Best Dressed Table award.”
Once inside, a chili sampler pack containing eight cups, a spoon and a People’s Choice ballot can be had for a suggested donation of $3. Patrons select samples from a wide spectrum of chilies, including shredded beef, chicken, hot, mild, spicy and vegetarian. The Farmers Grill will be open with its full menu, including french fries and ice cream.
“This event is a fun way to learn more about your area businesses, meet new people and taste some great chili,” said Lynda Nemeth, Geauga County Tourism director. “With many types of businesses competing this year, there should be a chili for every taste!”
Some of the competing businesses include Belle’s American Grille, M.T. Trucking, Ridgeview Farm, Pine Valley Bolts, T&T Cleaning, Alleys Grill, Simple Impressions and Crossroads Country Café.
Contestants will compete for cash prizes for first, second and third place, selected at 12:30 p.m. by a three-judge panel. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will be announced at 3:30 p.m.
Middlefield Market is located on Nauvoo Road, in Middlefield Township.
