SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP - - A Erickson Drive woman planned to remodel her kitchen, but she suddenly changed her mind when an apparent image of Jesus appeared in her lower cabinet door.
Shirley Ferguson was sitting at her kitchen table when she saw what appeared to be a picture of Jesus.
"It was a definite double-take," she said. "I looked over and it was as if he was looking at me. I could see the pupils in his eyes."
Ferguson said she decided to put off remodeling for just a bit.
The image appeared in late October.
"It appeared at a sad time in my life; it kind of helped," she said. "I have my faith."
Ferguson's parents lived in her house for 30 years and she's made it her home for the past 16 years.
"My mother, (Lillian Duff), lived here all those years and she can't believe no one saw it," Ferguson said.
Duff believes it's more than a coincidence that the natural wood grain pattern on the cabinet created a divine image. She said it's a blessing.
Just like other cases of religious sightings, there are skeptics.
"People are calling me crazy," Ferguson said.
However, she said no skeptic could convince her it is anything but a picture of Jesus.
"I can't say Jesus would show himself this way, but who am I to say?" she said. "To each his own."
