Ashtabula Towne Square is looking for shoppers

ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — Despite word that three more stores at Ashtabula Towne Square are casualties of a troubled economy, spokeswoman Meghann Flynn urges area residents to shop there.
“If store sales are good, they are going to stay,” Flynn said. “We are doing everything we can to draw shoppers. We have lots of good deals, programs and events going on.”
The Yum Yum Tree, Claire’s Accessories and Spencer Gifts will be closing soon.
The Yum Yum Tree card and gift store will close Feb. 18, Spencer Gifts will shut its doors today, and Claire’s will be out of business by the end of the month.
Last month, Old Navy announced it will close Jan. 31.
“It makes an impact, and it hurts when big stores close,” Flynn said. “But we continue to put forward our best effort.”
Ashtabula Towne Square, formerly known as the Ashtabula Mall, has received a complete new paint job, new carpeting, new curbstones, new lighting, new soft seating areas, restroom renovations and a new indoor playground. Motorists will notice a resurfaced parking lot with new lighting, as well.
Flynn said it’s a good time for small businesses to consider leasing space at the Ashtabula Towne Square.
“It’s the best time for leasing,” she said. “And we encourage shoppers to visit us because we have lots of clearance sales.”
