ASHTABULA — There are just 10 seats left on the Ashtabula NAACP’s Washington, D.C.-bound bus to the presidential inauguration, trip organizer Betty Holman said.
“The response has been wonderful,” she said. “We are ready to go and very excited.”
In order to accommodate rest stops and anticipated traffic, the Ashtabula chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s bus trip to the Obama inauguration will depart at 9:30 p.m. Monday from the KeyBank parking lot on Park Avenue in Ashtabula, and is scheduled to arrive at approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday in the Washington, D.C., area. The inauguration begins at noon Tuesday.
The bus is scheduled to arrive back in Ashtabula at 3 a.m. Wednesday.
Holman said reservations for the final 10 seats must be made by Friday. The cost of the bus trip is $160 for couples or $90 for individuals. To reserve, mail a check to: Ashtabula NAACP Bus Trip, c/o Adam Holman, 1123 W. 43rd St., Ashtabula, 44004.
Holman said the bus has a bathroom and will make frequent stops along the way. Passengers may take snacks, books and cell phones on the bus, and some snacks will be provided free of charge.
In addition to money for meals and souvenirs, each passenger must take $10 for round-trip Metrorail transportation from the outskirts to the Washington Mall, near the U.S. Capitol.
