Crews working through the night and day have restored power to Ashtabula County customers hit hard by Wednesday morning’s wind storm, an Illuminating Co. spokesman said Thursday.
All 2,300 county customers without power were scheduled to be back in service late Thursday night, said Mark Jones, area manager. Service was restored to all but 20 customers by late afternoon, and the rest were slated to be on the grid by 9 p.m., he said.
Winds that topped 50 mph flattened trees and knocked down wires across northeast Ohio. At the storm’s peak, 11,000 customers in the county were without power.
Most of the outages occurred in Conneaut, Ashtabula, Kingsville and North Kingsville, Jones said. The magnitude of the damage obliged the company to bring in outside crews to assist local repair teams, Jones said.
“There were a lot of folks, a lot of trees and a lot of damage,” he said.
Strong gusts blew down dozens of trees and limbs across the county, but the heaviest damage was reported along the shore. Several roads were temporarily closed because of dangling wires and toppled trees and branches. No road closings were reported Thursday.
