Wall collapses on firefighter By MARGIE TRAX PAGE - Staff Writer - mtrax@starbeacon.com Star Beacon CONNEAUT — The Conneaut firefighter injured in a fire on Sandusky Street Saturday is doing well after a burning wall collapsed on his foot.
Firefighter Terry Burr was fighting the three-alarm fire at the vacant two-story house when the wall fell, firefighter Tim Zee said. Burr was taken to UH Conneaut Medical Center, where he was treated and released, Zee said. “(Burr’s) injuries were minor,” Zee said. “He will be fine.” Fire engines pulled up to the house at 3 a.m. as flames engulfed the roof and firefighters stayed on the scene until 7 a.m., according to reports. Zee said the cause of the fire at the empty house is still under investigation. “There is no evidence of anyone staying in the house or ‘squatting,’” Zee said. “No one was inside and no one else was injured.” Extensive damage to the interior and exterior of the house, especially the second story, leaves the structure unsalvageable, Zee said. “The house is pretty much a total loss,” he said. According to the Ashtabula County Auditor’s Web site, the house is owned by New Line Properties LLC, of Medina. Two weeks ago Zee was injured fighting an electrical fire at a different house on Sandusky Street, he said. Zee was fighting the fire when he fell down a flight of steps, spraining his wrist. “Our New Year’s resolution is to have a safe 2009,” Zee said. “No more injuries for us.”
