Baker lacks understanding

Bill Baker once again shows the ignorance and lack of understanding that have become hallmarks of the current Republican party. In a recent opinion, Baker claimed that Walkers survival in Wisconsin was a victory for the American taxpayer. To back his assertion, he cites a litany of “facts” to back his claims. A quick look at fact checking websites such as Politfact and suggests a different picture. Baker claims that Walker “boldly” eliminated a budget deficit, Politifact tells a different story however. Others claim that Walker reduced unemployment in Wisconsin. Again the facts suggest otherwise.
Baker also complains that President Obama blames his predecessor for the state of our economy, yet the blame squarely rests on policies that favor the wealthy at the expense of most Americans. Baker and his Fox news friends seem to think that as  long as we eliminate budget deficits, safety nets that get cut as a result, do not matter. So what if someone loses heating assistance or food stamps or any other program that benefits the needy, at least we reduced the deficit. I have to give Baker’s party credit they have been successful at demonizing labor unions and any policies that might help poor and middle class Americans.
I am frightened for this country if Republicans win the Oval Office and gain more seats in Congress. In states where the GOP has a majority, a consistent pattern of policies has emerged. Some examples are infringement on voting rights, reduction in funding for social programs, elimination or  reduction or workers’ rights, and in some states, restriction of First Amendment rights. Baker and friends are masters of inflammatory and false rhetoric that undermine our country while claiming to be great patriots. The reality is that the policies they support have done great damage to our country and benefit the few at the expense of the many.
