CONNEAUT — Merton J. Porter, age 90, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Oct. 8, 1922, in West Springfield, Pa., and lived there until last year. He was more recently a resident of The Villa At The Lake, Conneaut, Ohio. He was the son of George Raymond and Myrtie (Brewster) Porter and graduated from Springfield Township (PA) High School in 1940.
He worked as an inspector at G.E. Erie/Aerospace Division until his retirement in 1985, after 42 years of service.
Mr. Porter was a member of the West Springfield United Methodist Church and the East Springfield Lodge of the Odd Fellows, later the Nickel Plate Lodge.
He enjoyed golfing in his retirement and golfed in the Wednesday League at Village Green Golf Course in Kingsville, Ohio. He also enjoyed helping friends with running errands.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his brother, Harold L. “Red” Porter, in 2004.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Dorothy Porter, and two nieces, Martha (Ray) Camp and Mimi Porter. He is further survived by one great-nephew and one great-niece; five great-great nieces and nephews; and one great-great-great niece.
No calling hours will be observed. Interment will be in East Conneaut Cemetery, Conneaut, at a later date.
