ORWELL — Ralph Leotis Swyers, age 71, a life long resident of Orwell, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at UH-Geauga Medical Center with his family by his side.
He was born Nov. 26, 1941, in Verona, Pa., the son of William and Glenadean (Warren) Swyers. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during Vietnam.
He worked as a machinist at Rockwell International and Reliance Electric in Ashtabula until their closing. He then received his CDL and became a truck driver for Arms Trucking in Claridon and then King Brother in Streetsboro where he retired.
In his retirement, he enjoyed camping, fishing, reading, dirt track racing or any kind of motor sports. His favorite camping buddies were his grandchildren and was usually seen at the race track with his grandchildren cheering on the King Bro’s Racing Team.
His survivors include his six children, Malinda Swyers of Windsor, Mary (Tom) McCrimmon of Bazetta, Guernard (Brenda) Swyers of Rome, Christina Swyers-Hartshorn (Jim Hibler) of Colebrook, Stacy Swyers (Bo Perkins) of Orwell and Sara Swyers of Warren; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his former wife and best friend, Maribelle Dodge Bates of Mecca.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Glenadean; and his six siblings, Dolores Lanning, Faye Hetzel, Peg Riley, Linda Bradner, Don Swyers and Warren (Herk) Swyers.
Calling Hours will be held at PAINE FUNERAL HOME INC., 140 E. Main St., Orwell, on Wednesday, Nov. 20th, from 4 to 5:45 p.m. A Funeral Service officiated by the Rev. James Stanley will follow at 6 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Services will be concluded by U.S. Military Honors.
