“Mrs. Mary,” or “Aunt Sis” as she was known to family, was born Oct. 20, 1924, near Castor, La., the first daughter and fourth child of Frank and Eunice Jinks. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert L. Huff, of Keithville; younger sister, Mrs. Dorothy Peavy of Arcadia; sister-in-law, Sharon Jinks of Keithville; son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Svetlana A. Huff of Keithville; step-grandson, Stan Chuprin of Dallas, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Robert F., James D. and Allen F. Jinks.
Mrs. Mary graduated from Castor High at age 15 and attended Louisiana Normal/Northwestern College for two years, as part of the girls’ basketball team. In 1943, she was a civilian telephone operator at Camp Polk in Leesville, where she met her future husband, Robert, of Hudson, Mass. He was so intrigued by her voice over the phone that he had to meet her. They were married March 10, 1944, in DeRidder, La., on Robert’s 24th birthday. In 1954, she and Robert moved to Ashtabula, Ohio, where she worked as an accountant at Pinney Dock & Transport Co., and Carlisle Brothers’ Department Store, and where her son, Richard was born. In 1983, she and Robert returned to Louisiana, where she was employed at the Shreveport State Office of Medicare/Medicaid Eligibility until retirement.
