Star Beacon

CONNEAUT — Virgil V. Andes, age 85, of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 28, 2013, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.

He was born Jan. 29, 1928, in Conneaut, Ohio, and was the son of Enos Edgar and Julia Ruth (Mace) Andes.

Mr. Andes married his bride Elsie Jean Barnett on Sept. 11, 1949. They shared 64 wonderful years together and raised three children, Stephen, Dale and Sandra.

He retired in 1986 as a maintenance mechanic from Linde Air. A Christian man who followed a life of faith, Virgil attended The Assembly of God, Four-Square Gospel Church, and Federated Church through the years. He dedicated his time to church by being active on deacon boards, teaching Sunday school, leading worship, and never hesitating to share his faith with others. He also worked with the Boys Town of America.

Following his retirement, Virgil assisted many individuals throughout his life, influencing them with his faith and willingness to help in any situation. He helped the clean-up team after the Albion tornado, and collected scrap and aluminum cans, dividing the money earned between several missions. He often volunteered at the Food Pantry delivering food to shut-ins. At about age 70, Virgil began making scrapbooks with church related articles from church magazines or newspapers, then sharing them with shut-ins and people in nursing homes.

He will be missed by his wife, Jean Andes of Conneaut; his sons, Stephan (Margaret) Andes of North Kingsville, Ohio and Dale (Pam) Andes of Conneaut, Ohio; his daughter, Sandra (Randall) Wilson of Alger, Ohio; 9 grandchildren, Charity Baillargeon, Tommy (Jaime) Andes, Timothy (Casey) Andes, Katherine (Jason) Cox, Douglas (Andrea) Gustafson, Michael (fiancee Mandy) Gustafson, Alyssa Andes, Lynna (Greg) Mooney and Heather (Aaron) Bowman; five great-grandchildren, Carter, Macie, Jake, Caden and Mya; as well and nieces, nephews and more distant relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Kyle, Marvin and Dwayne Andes.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 2nd, at the Federated Church, 11995 Main St., East Springfield, Pa., with the Rev. Ed Huntley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Family to be disbursed to the many missions that were so important to Virgil. Envelopes will be available at the church or at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, which has charge of arrangements.
