KINGSVILLE — Etta Hicks, age 103, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday evening, August 29, 2013, at the Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehab Center in Kingsville, Ohio.
Etta was born in Conneaut, Ohio, on August 17, 1910, the daughter of the late Edgar James and Mary Anna (Searls) Messenger. She married Kenneth L. Hicks on Feb. 20, 1927.
Etta worked for several years as a short-order cook at the State Line Truck Stop. She also worked at various restaurants in both Conneaut and the Springfield areas as well over the years. Besides working, Etta enjoyed her family, her many grandchildren, and cooking, baking, and sewing, playing solitaire and listening to her radio.
Besides her parents, Etta was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Kenneth; two daughters, Maryann McCall Buchner and Marlene E. Daggett; and a son, Kenny H. Hicks; a sister, Florence Bort; and a brother, Royal Eldridge Messenger.
She is survived by two sons; Larry V. Hicks and his wife, Grace of Erie, Pa, Ronald J. Hicks and his wife, Darlene and Mike A. Hicks and his wife, Sue of Conneaut, Ohio; and a daughter, Kay L. Parnell and her husband, James of Simcoe, Ontario. Etta is also survived by 145 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to call at the Grace United Methodist Church, 49 Franklin St., Albion, Pa. on Wednesday, Sept. 4th, from 11 a.m. until the time of the Service at 1 p.m., with Pastor Duk Hee Han officiating. Etta will be laid to rest next to her husband in Springfield Cemetery.
