JEFFERSON — James C. Roller, age 91, a resident of Ashtabula, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at Jefferson Healthcare Center.

He was born July 1, 1922, in Ashtabula, the son of Bert and Charlotte Roller. He graduated from Harbor High School and The Ohio State University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Jim married Patricia Judson on July 20, 1946, in Sandusky, Ohio. During World War II, Jim served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant.

After brief employment in Arizona and Kentucky, he returned to Ashtabula and founded Roller Reinforced Plastics where he served as president and owner until 1975. In 1978, he and his son Joe founded Rollco, Inc., a construction company serving the Ashtabula County area.

Jim was an avid sports fan and reveled in following the Cleveland Browns, Indians, and his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. Anyone who knew Jim knew how much he loved (hated) golf. He was a lifelong member of the Ashtabula Country Club and served as its president on several occasions. He and his wife Pat enjoyed many wonderful golf trips to places like Pinehurst and Pebble Beach, to name a few. He also held fond memories of golfing excursions to Scotland and Ireland. Jim and Pat also spent many years wintering at their home in South Carolina on Callawassie Island.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia of Ashtabula; daughters, Sue (Pete) Smith of Erie, Pa. and Ann (John) Conway of Bluffton, S.C.; a son, Joseph A. (Kay) Roller of Ashtabula; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Charlotte Roller; his brother, Joseph A. Roller; and his sister, Barbara L. Roller.

Family and friends are welcome to help celebrate Jim’s wonderful life at a reception at Martini’s (formerly the Ashtabula Country Club), 4338 Lake Road W., Ashtabula on Sunday, Oct. 6th, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

A private family service will be held in Edgewood Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League, 5970 Green Road, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004 or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004. DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula is in charge of arrangements.
