ANDOVER — Jeanne A. Schertzer, age 87, of Andover, Ohio, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Andover Village Retirement Community.

She was born Dec. 15, 1925, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, a daughter of Paul R. and Ruth I. (Blaser) Castanien. Formerly of Upper Sandusky, Mrs. Schertzer was a long time Andover resident.

She was employed as a secretary for Pymatuning Valley Schools for many years; and she also was employed by the GE Plant in Andover and Pymatuning State Park. She was a long time member of the Andover First United Methodist Church, where she served on many committees over the years.

Mrs. Schertzer is survived by her husband, Richard J. Schertzer, whom she married Oct. 1, 1945, of Andover; three sons, Dr. Clinton B. (Dr. Susan) Schertzer of Cincinnati, Ohio, David A. (Doris) Schertzer of Youngstown, Ohio and Rodney A. (Elizabeth Lewis) Schertzer of Cincinnati, Ohio; her daughter, Sheila A. (Mel) Michael of Andover, Ohio; 9 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Virginia Retterer of Bowling Green, Ohio, Janet (Robert) Swisher of Mansfield, Ohio, Eleanor (William) Seidell of Roanoke, Va. and Judy (Bill) Thatcher of Marion, Ohio; and two brothers, William Castanien of Columbus, Ohio and Franklin (Denise) Castanien of Englewood, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, John Richard Schertzer in 1987; a sister, Marjorie Castanien; and a brother, Richard "Bud" Castanien.

A Memorial Service will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5th, at First United Methodist Church, 181 S. Main St., Andover, Ohio, with the Rev. Vernon Palo officiating.

Calling Hours will be from 1 p.m. until time of Service, Saturday, at the Church.
