SHEFFIELD TOWNSHIP — Shirley L. (Duncan) Nemitz, age 84, of Lillie Road, Sheffield Township, Ohio, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013.
She was born Jan. 24, 1929, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Cloyd and Vivian Duncan and has been a lifetime area resident. She was a graduate of Edgewood High School. Shirley was married to Eugene Nemitz on June 21, 1947.
Shirley was a long-time member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Ashtabula. She was a member of TOPS Club in Kingsville, Ohio. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and watching the birds outside of her front window. Shirley loved to bake and everyone enjoyed her cinnamon rolls, cookies, cream pies, and brownies.
She was a loving person who always thought of others first before herself. She loved kids and enjoyed baby-sitting her grandchildren and neighbor kids. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She loved traveling with her husband when he retired and when they were able to attend many of the Navy reunions to various popular places like Gettysburg, Mall of Minnesota, Myrtle Beach, etc. She especially enjoyed the friendships she made during these escapades.
Surviving are her eight children, Eugene (Dian) Nemitz Jr. of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Sandra (W. Eugene) Young of Caneyville, Ky., Daniel Nemitz of Jefferson, Ohio, Timothy Nemitz of Jefferson, Ohio, Rebecca (Larry) Beckwith of Westerville, Ohio, Pamela (David) Brenneman of Jefferson, Ohio, Emily (Ralph) Benetka of Jefferson, Ohio, and Laurie (Adrian) Williams of Bay Village, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Nemitz; her parents, Cloyd and Vivian Duncan; and her sisters, Barbara Temprovich, Clarice Baugher, and Marilyn Peterson.
The family would like to thank Shirley’s caregivers Denise Carlson and Jean Thompson for their dedicated care along with health aide Lisa Baker.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 13th, at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 615 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Dr. Michael Meranda officiating. Burial will be in Gageville Cemetery, Sheffield Township.
Calling Hours will be Thursday, Dec. 12th, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS & CREMATORY, INC., 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, and on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Luther Room at the Church.
