ASHTABULA — Gregory Daniel Zannelli Sr., age 63, of Oak Lane, Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
He was born August 26, 1950, in Bradford, Pa., the son of Patrick and Dolores (Sullivan) Zannelli and had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life.
A 1968 graduate of Harbor High School, he worked 42 years as an engineer before his retirement from the Norfolk Southern Railroad. For more than 10 years, he served as the president of BLET (Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen).
A long time member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, St. Joseph Church. He enjoyed traveling; especially his trip to Hawaii where he went whale watching. He also liked his trips to casinos and Disney World.
His survivors include his loving wife of 21 years, Suan (Knudsen) Zannelli, whom he married July 10, 1992; a son, Greg Zannelli Jr.; a daughter, Suzanne Zannelli; three step-children, Jason (Dina) DiDonato, Mandy Kerby and Roby Potts; several grandchildren, including Emily and Alex DiDonato and Jared and Leah Kerby; and a sister, Jackie Zannelli of Orlando, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling Hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15th, at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16th, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, St. Joseph Church, 3312 Lake Ave., Ashtabula. Fr. Ernesto Rodriguez will preside. Burial will in St. Joseph Cemetery.
