ASHTABULA — Susie Mae Talley, age 77, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 25, 1936, in Memphis, Tenn., the daughter of Johnny Bell and Rosette (Barnett) Gaston and had been a Painesville resident most of her life.
A member of Greater Faith Tabernacle Ministries COGIC, she served as a missionary and evangelist and truly loved her church.
Susie loved garage sales, cooking, singing, and most of all, her family.
Her survivors include nine children, John Martin of Euclid, Jerry Martin of Orient, Robert Talley Jr. of Cleveland, Ida Faye Barnes of Clinton, Mich., Linda McNeil of Painesville, Debra Phelps of Geneva and Judy Williams, Jeanette (Hilbert) Coleman and Michelle Talley, all of Ashtabula; two “adopted” daughters, Cleophas Gaston of Painesville and Martha L. Smith of Mississippi; two sons-in-law, Ronnie Thomas of Texas and Zack Williams of Ashtabula; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including Romona Gaston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Talley in 1995; a daughter, Suzanne Thomas; a granddaughter, Shanika Isom; three brothers, Willie, George and John Gaston Jr.; one sister, Ida Brown; and her parents.
Calling Hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6th, at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, and from 9 to 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 7th, at the New Hope Baptist Church, 428 W. Jackson St., Painesville, Ohio.
A Service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 7th, at the New Hope Baptist Church, 428 W. Jackson St., Painesville. Supt. Larry Barclay, Pastor of Great Faith Tabernacle Ministries COGIC, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Painesville.
