GENEVA — Joan E. Bates, age 73, of Geneva, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born June 22, 1940, in Madison, to George Grabski and Nellie (Grabski) Hummel and step-father, Arnold Hummel.
She is survived by brothers, Jack (Susan) Grabski of Erie, Pa. and Jim Grabski of Geneva; sister, Marje (Ed) Shook of Madison; daughters, Sheila Avsec of Akron and Shelby Young of Streetsboro; and son, Jondrew (Lori) Avsec of Geneva. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Jennie, Drew and Jacob Avsec; nieces, Kim, Libby, Amy, Jennifer and Sarah; and nephews, John, Josh, Jim and Joe.
She was the owner of “Hospitality for all Seasons Catering”, and loved entertaining, gardening and reading. She was a member of, and had many friends at Central Congregational Church in Madison, and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Geneva.
Per her wishes, there will be a private ceremony for the family at a later date.
